A leaked internal document from the New York State Department of Transportation gives warning of road damage due to heavy truck use that comes with hydrofracking.

The document, dated June 22, is a draft version of a discussion paper titled “Transportation impacts of potential Marcellus Shale gas development.” It estimated $121 - $222 million of damage to local roads from heavy truck use.

The draft appeared last week on the Chenango, Delaware and Ostego Gas Drilling Opposition Group website.

It states, “there is no mechanism in place allowing state and local governments to absorb these additional transportation costs without major impacts to other programs and other municipalities in the state.”
