Small solar project could help prevent frequent blackouts in Java

Cuomo’s renewable flop (cont’d.) : Empire Center for Public Policy
0 comments Posted by SARTRE at 11:42 AMNew data shows Governor Andrew Cuomo's #renewableenergy push isn't delivering the promised results. New data from NYISO, which oversees the state’s electrical grid and wholesale market, indicates 28% of the energy sold into the competitive market in 2017 came from renewables, up from 24% a year earlier.... "That increase, however, was driven primarily by increased output from existing hydroelectric generators, chiefly the state-run dams at Niagara Falls and Massena. The two largest dams, which produce most of the state’s hydroelectric power, saw an 8 percent jump in output “due to increased water levels on Lakes Erie and Ontario resulting in higher water flow to the Niagara and St. Lawrence hydroelectric plants,” according to the state Power Authority." https://ift.tt/2H6IYPd https://ift.tt/2H6IYPd Cuomo’s renewable flop (cont’d.) by Kenneth Girardin | April 17, 2018 | NY Torch Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard has spurred just one-fifth of the new renewable energy generation promised in 2016. What we are witnessing here in WNY is that all the 'economic development' programs coming out of Albany and being funneled down to Upstate, Central & Western NY communities (via cronyism-driven IDAs & EDCs), are all geared toward the rich and connected, and are failing to create the jobs they've promised - most notably, the $Billions that are being funneled to industrial wind & solar developers. Multi-billion dollar corporations (ie: Iberdrola, Invenergy, Tesla/SolarCity, etc) are taking New York State tax and ratepayers to the cleaners, while the areas that host these environmentally-destructive projects are left with few, if any, meaningful permanent jobs. Next on the list of Albany's wasteful spending ventures is all of the taxpayer money that's being doled out to "craft breweries" and gambling venues across the state. The hypocrisy of doling out $Billions to establish breweries & gambling casinos is that the addiction surrounding these venues leads to further moral & community decline and increased health care costs in our state. The CDC figures that at least 88,000 people die from alcohol abuse every year - nearly twice the deaths they figure are being caused by the opiod crisis. So why are we spending taxpayer money to push more alcohol intake??? Not to mention, the people who got the sizable state donations in my area were already wealthy restauranteurs. WHY should they be entitled to OUR taxpayer money to start another business, when so many small and existing businesses who are struggling to make ends meet are left to fend for themselves?!? As State officials continue to pick and choose the winners & losers in what they deem to be appropriate 'economic development,' New York State residents will continue to flee the state to escape the high tax burdens & "skyrocketing electricity rates" we are all enduring as a result. DOE Confirms Threat to Grid Reliability -- From the report’s executive summary: “During the worst of the storm from January 5-6, 2018, actual U.S. electricity market experience demonstrated that without the resilience of coal- and fuel oil/dual-firing plants—its ability to add 24-hour baseload capacity—the eastern United States would have suffered severe electricity shortages, likely leading to widespread blackouts.” “Experience with such blackouts indicates the potentially enormous toll in both economic losses and human suffering associated with widespread lack of electricity, utilized as the primary home heating source for nearly 40 percent of U.S. households, and necessary for running the electric fans of natural gas furnaces, for extended periods.” https://ift.tt/2qjRekt https://ift.tt/2qjRekt …DOE Confirms Threat to Grid Reliability… Several previous articles explored whether grid reliability was being endangered when RTO/ISOs used auctions to select which generation source to use.
